Cervical Screening

Cervical screening tests (also known as a smear test) are usually taken by the Practice Nurse. Women aged between 25 - 65 are invited by the Health Authority to make an appointment.  It is preferable to take this test between the 9th and 20th day of your menstrual cycle. If you are due your cervical screening you can book online or via the surgery.

The test can detect cell changes in the cervix (neck of the womb) that can sometimes lead to cancer. If the changes are present, treatment is nearly always simple, effective and without major surgery - this is a preventative test to stop cancer before it starts. Tests are recommended every 3 - 5 years according to National guidelines.

Contraception

At the Grove Medical Centre all GPs and several practice nurses offer Contraceptive advice.

Our Nursing Team offers Oral contraception and Injectable Progesterone contraception prescribing, advice and regular reviews.

We also have a dedicated team of healthcare professionals who also fit, remove and change Intrauterine devices (Coils – both copper and hormonal) and Implants (progesterone – Nexplanon).

All these services are on an appointment only basis, which is initially offered over the phone, and followed up with a Face to Face consult at the practice if required.

We provide this service to all our registered patients, and also to patients registered with other local GP practices where there is no facility for Coil or Implant insertion/removal.

For any contraception related query, in the first instance please contact our Patient Services Team on 01935 810900

Please see the links below for more information about the different contraceptives we offer.

Minor Operations

Minor procedures such as removal of skin lesions, joint injections and freezing therapy can be performed by your GP.  Please book an appointment with your GP if you feel you  have a condition that would benefit from minor surgery.

Travel Vaccinations

The Practice Nurses can offer the full range of foreign travel immunisations, including Yellow Fever and up-to-date advice for travelling abroad. However you will probably need time to have the necessary course so try to attend at least 8 weeks before travel.

Please download or call at the surgery to complete a Travel Questionnaire so that the Practice Nurse can ensure that you have the correct advice and immunisations. There will be a charge for some non NHS vaccinations but please discuss this when you first consult the Practice Nurse regarding your travel requirements. A Certificate of Vaccination can be provided.

We can provide Yellow Fever vaccination and certification although this will incur a charge.
