New Patients

We are using an online service called Register with a GP surgery that makes it easy to register with The Grove Medical Centre.

Just fill in this quick online form to start the process. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number.

The service is designed and run by the NHS, so your personal information is safe. It cuts our administrative workload and makes it easier for you to register.

Paper forms are still available if you need one.

Non-urgent advice: Registering with The Grove Medical Centre

We are pleased to accept all patients from Sherborne and some of the surrounding areas, please check before registering that you are within our catchment area.

You will be registered with your chosen GP if you have a preference but you may consult with any GP of your choice, though we recommend that you see the same GP regularly, where possible, to ensure continuity of care.

Temporary Patient Registrations

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from a local GP practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

To register as a temporary patient you will need to contact us. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although we do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Find Your NHS Number

Sometimes when filling in online forms or speaking with our staff, you may be asked for your NHS number.

This online tool will help you find your number if you do not know it.

Please Note

You do not need to know your NHS number to use NHS services, but it can be useful to have it.

Other ways to get your NHS number

If you cannot get your NHS number online you can:

  • find it on any letter from the NHS like a prescription or appointment letter
  • call your GP surgery and ask them for your number
