Physical activity has significant benefits to physical and mental health, as well as reducing all-cause mortality. Prescribing exercise for patients has been advocated for over 20 years. Physical inactivity is estimated to cost the UK more than £7 billion a year.
There's never been a better time to kickstart your health. Excess weight makes it harder to fight off nasty illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, and respiratory viruses.
If you're living with obesity, contracting viruses and infections could mean that you're twice as likely to be hospitalised. Extra weight means extra pressure on your body. Reduce your weight to reduce your risk. Eating well and moving more will change your future, by keeping yourself healthy and active, you could improve your recovery time from common illnesses and surgery, and indirectly impact waiting times at your GP and for hospital referrals.
