World Alzheimer's Month

World Alzheimer's Month is an international campaign held every year during September.

The campaign is a chance for everyone to come together to raise awareness of dementia and to address the stigma and discrimination that still exists around the condition.

What is Dementia?

Dementia is a general term for a range of symptoms affecting cognitive abilities, of which Alzheimer's is the most common type. Dementia is the UK's biggest killer and the largest health and social issue of our time. Its impact is enormous, on the lives of those affected, the healthcare system and the economy.

Today nearly one million people in the UK live with dementia. That's almost a million families living with the condition.

This World Alzheimer's Month, people affected by dementia are being asked to share their story. This could be people living with dementia or their carers, families and friends.

Please visit either the Alzheimer's Society or Dementia UK websites to see how you can share your story or help in other ways.
